History and new skills
Bankers from father to son for 4 generations, the Wormser family is at the head of the bank since 1936, foundation of the Banque d’Escompte and 1958 of Banque Wormser Frères. The family banking activities carried out by these two banks, have been joined in 1999 in Banque d’Escompte & Wormser Frères Réunis. Since 2011, on its 75th anniversary, the bank is called Banque Wormser Frères.
After 63 years of active business on the money market, as a rediscount house with the Banque de France and primary dealer (SVT), Banque d’Escompte stopped its monetary activities when it absorbed its sister company Banque Wormser Frères and became totally dedicated to deposit banking and asset management.
Always eager to anticipate the evolution of banking skills, Banque Wormser Freres collected and managed on line deposits under the “first-e” brand. Unfortunately it did not last very long since first-e was bought by another company in 2000.
In 2002, the bank got involved in trading on line and absorbed Omniane, now called StartFinance to give its customers looking for self-trading, the opportunity to operate on the stock market and derivates.
The bank launched a new activity in 2004 dedicated to money transfer. It allows the different communities settled in France to transfer funds to their homeland. This new activity, operated under the brand name BdE, developed significantly due to its unique secure, rapid and low cost transactions. The IT skills of Banque Wormser Frères made it possible for BdE to operate alone or in partnership with many countries around the word.
